52 Pick-Up

Three cheers for me.  It's my 52nd birthday!!!

Given all the things that happened in my 50th and 51st year, I feel like there's no way to go but up, and that's the plan.

To celebrate, we had brunch Sunday at Kitchen Notes.  It's the restaurant at the Nashville Omni Hotel.  I have brunched there before, and I really like it.  To be fair, it's really more of a big breakfast buffet, but I love breakfast food, so we had fun.

Tonight I'm off to Fran's Dive Bar for a quick Open Mic.  It's going to be laid back - I have a little prepared material, then I'll pull from the riff bucket for the rest (literally, a bucket of topics on little slips of paper prepared by the other folks doing the open mic.

Then home.

Tomorrow, we're going to a soccer game with some friends.  The husband of the couple has a birthday one day after mine (or before, I can't honestly remember), so we're all celebrating together.  And I feel like that's plenty.

Meanwhile, we had a training cohort that nearly killed me.  There were supposed to be 34, but several dropped before.  Then we found out the Friday before Monday's start that more than half the class wouldn't have laptops for the class until Tuesday or Wednesday.  It was chaotic. Like playing whack-a-mole without a mallet.

By the end of the week, my boss noted that we looked like we had been beaten up - meaning me and Jen, the woman who does all the crazy requests and tech assist behind the scenes.  And we did. I felt like I had been through one of those extreme exercise obstacle courses - your Tough Mudder, etc. - but with one arm tied behind my back.  And I'm not a Tough Mudder to begin with, so you can imagine.

Which made the weekend just that much sweeter.  We're still dealing with fallout. People who have lost power to their apartment, dying family, sick family, I don't know what all else, but man - did we build our HR office on a burial ground?

Come toward the light, Carol Ann.

Anyway - that's pretty much all I have to say, except, you know - happy birthday sweet me.
