I haven't really talked about it, but Piper is getting older and has some health issues that are going to ultimately going to be her end.
I don't know when that is going to be. But yesterday's vet visit put it closer than I think I was ready for. I don't know when I would actually be ready for it. Never would be good.
As I told a friend, she's my favorite co-worker. Which says a lot, not only about her, but about where I am in life. She's just solid, and makes sure I get out and get some fresh air and sunshine. When is the last time you said that about Rob in accounting?
I worked from home yesterday to take her to the vet, and today, they're bringing locksmiths in to key our offices, so I'm home now as well.
She's in the front room, so it's not like I'm spending time with her, but knowing she's there - my guardian angel, my gargoyle, my protector and crumb-catcher. It helps.
I mean, she's still her. She chases prey, slowly - still catches it from time to time - because now she goes after dumb helpless baby animals. She eats, sleeps, begs for treats, gets excited when we get home, likes to ride in the car, bark at strangers.
So I am enjoying that while I can. She's the best. She's a beast.
She won't live forever, but I'll love her forever.
