Times Two

Yesterday, I was preparing our back yard for the first mow of the season, and I stumbled upon a rabbit's nest.  Unfortunately, it was one that had been abandoned for an undetermined time...long enough that they were definitely not alive, and so I had to clear it out.  Three little kits, each about the size of a golf ball.  It broke my heart.  But nature is capricious, and the survival rates on a rabbit litter are low.  That didn't make it easier.  The good news is, it was situated such that they hadn't been detected or disturbed by Piper.  Having seen a large hawk swooping in our yard during the week, I have to wonder if that is what happened.  I'll never know.  For the past month, I have seen the bigger rabbits in the yard nearly every time I go out in the morning or evening, so that's a win. I guess.

There's also the season.  And I don't mean spring, although, welcome spring!  March 23rd marks the 12th year since Dad died.  And he showed me the only other bunny nest I have ever seen, complete with live bunnies up at our cabin.  I know that's just the luck of the draw, but I have my father to thank in so many ways for my love of nature.

It is a nice warm day here in Nashville, and due to the aforementioned transition into spring, I am in the process of getting my clothing in order for a new season.  Everything, including my brain, my thoughts, own skin, seems to be ill-fitting.  I would love to take a little jaunt to Atlanta to the Korean spa that removes layers of dead skin, so that you emerge a shiny new snake with bright and lovely scales.

I will not be making that trip.  I will be taking a trip next week to the family cabin.  There is a tree on the cabin, currently.  It will be, I hope, removed around this time next week.  Please, send out some good tree mojo.  The good news from that is that the cabin is intact, and the tree did no damage.  I just need it gone so I can focus on the other challenges.  Like, I need to get the place re-plumbed.  Which, given my summer schedule, looks like a fall-time project.

But I'll get to see some pretty land, breathe some fresh air, and see people I love.

Maybe I'll see some little rabbits.
