The Super Bowl is in the books for another year, and that's perfectly OK with me. The team I had hoped would win won. And more than that, the half-time show was so freaking fun.
Now, I was taking a bathroom break during the ads leading up to it, and that meant I missed seeing the behind-the-scenes view of hundreds of people dressed as grass hustling onto the field. Meaning I didn't realize that was people until the next day when reading the recap.
That only made the good better. I was blown away at the detail and color and vibrancy of the show. I picked out maybe three words from the whole thing - my French skills are non-transferrable. But it was glorious. The joy that was broadcast out to the whole planet was just lovely. We're not a most-favored nation by anyone these days - including internally. It's messy. But this was something beautiful coming out of the debris. We needed it, I mean, I needed it. I didn't know how much.
The other thing I didn't know I needed was a giant pretzel the size of my head.
We went to the home of some friends for the party. They had found this massive pretzel at Aldi. They also sell them online at the Milwaukee Pretzel Company:
It was snacktacular. I really like these people - the husband used to work with Matt, the wife is a surgical tech. They moved to California for awhile, and they're back. They happened to spot Matt working the sidelines of a soccer game and texted him, then we starting socializing. I really like them. They are our age, no kids, and they love games, puns, movies, and basically having fun. We had a lovely time. I need to shoot them a thank you note.
And maybe send them another pretzel. Love me a good soft pretzel.
So, Sunday was good. Monday was a recovery mode kind of day. And now, we're creeping up on Valentine's Day. We don't, as a couple, do much for the holiday - but we're having a little celebration Friday at the office, and I purchased some stuff to pass out - little bags of gummy bears you can write on. Perfect.
After that, well, it's practically March. I just passed my 90 day with work, which is great. My manager sent me a little gift:
| This is a Dammit Doll. She has my eyes. |
I think things are starting to come together in a good way. Sort of. I mean, there are still some things that are hanging in the balance. We need to plan our trip for my nephew's graduation. We need to finish work on the cabin (plumbing, which I have decided to outsource to someone other than the team we used last year - plumbing seems to have confounded them.
I need to have taxes done.
I need to cull my closets and drawers. Thin the herd. I was contemplating a novelty t-shirt the other day, and my husband said, "I feel like you have a closet full of t-shirts that are supposed to make you happy and they don't". I freaking hate it when he's so precisely right like that. Annoying!
Now, to be fair, I could say the same of his DVD collection, but I'm too doggone nice for that. Well, not that nice - I just said it. Not to him, but, you know.
Marriage is about picking your battles, and realizing that even with battles, ultimately you're on the same side.
At least, that's my take.
I am ready for some warm weather. I have been uncomfortably cold since January. Granted, we have about five weeks until Spring. We'll make it till then - bit man, the office has been having issues with heat, and that has made for some rough days. They sent staff home today. I don't think it's that bad, personally, but I also tend to retain heat. Now, are my hands and feet cold? Yes. I should have made time for socks this morning, but there was a bit of a time crunch. These things happen, it's a bummer. It has been hardest on my hands - I have cracks and splits that make having opposable thumbs a freaking hassle. And I also wash my hands all the freaking time, which is important, but also tends to exacerbate the issue.
| Not my actual hands, but pretty close. |
I'll work on that, and whatever else I can. Catch you later, gators.
