The World's Worst Kept Secret

Without getting into too much detail, there are some changes on the horizon for me at work.  Whether good or bad - there will be change.  I'm preparing myself for that, but it also has me sort of frozen.  Well, not frozen.  Sluggish, maybe, is a better word.

Although, in some ways, my life is full-steam ahead!

I have made some plans to get things at the family cabin shored up.  Granted, just preliminary, but the journey of a lifetime begins with a single step.  Or something.

We went to the Belcourt last night, on another cultural boondoggle.

They're showing a lot of Altman these days - and that's never a bad thing.  Last night was a showing of Thieves Like Us - a 1974 crime and love story.  It's hard to pin down what it was, exactly.  But it was good.

They brought in 2 of the stars to give a little talk as an intro to the movie.  Keith Carradine and John Shuck.

If you're an Altman fan, you'll know that both men have worked in several Altman films.  Both have aged well, and had some great stories.

It's worth nothing that the Belcourt does stuff like this often.  Not always just stars giving intros, but film professors, subject matter experts, etc.

Some of my favorite Nashville memories are centered around the Belcourt. It has changed since I moved here.  For one, the seats are uniformly functional and comfortable, and the ladies room is now larger than a closet.   But the essence is there, and you can see foreign films, new stuff, old stuff.  It's one of a handful of places that still projects on 35mm from time to time - last night included.

Also, I really, really like the opportunity to hoover down a large amount of popcorn in a dark room surrounded by strangers.  I also enjoy the butter.  I know it's controversial, but man, I do love it.

If we're taking movie candy, there are a few I like.  I think both Raisinettes and Junior Mints are top notch.  I will also take down some Twizzlers if it comes to it.

Sugar.  Boy do I love it.

Speaking of, we have a little fructose induced issue here at the house.  Something got too ripe too fast, and we are now a fruit fly breeding ground.

I set up a trap using vinegar and dish soap Monday - no good.  So yesterday, I put up a trap that uses a purple light and a sticky card to dispatch with them.  It's better, but I'm adding the "container with a piece of ripe fruit covered in plastic wrap with small holes" to see if I can eradicate them.  I could just throw out all my bananas, but I eat a banana as part of my breakfast each day.  Sure, I could remove the banana from the equation, but would I rather tolerate a few fruit flies, or give up the joy of oatmeal with peanut butter powder and a banana?

I mean, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and the worst thing about fruit flies is that they're annoying.

So, there's that.

I'll keep you posted on things here, but it's mostly the same as it ever was.
