PRO/AM

Great news, friends.  I was able to successfully probate my mother's will, and I am now officially the executor of the estate.

I ended up leaving a little early Monday to drive to Atlanta, and as luck would have it, I arrived in a timely enough manner to enjoy something that was, to put it bluntly, OK.

I'm talking about an Atlanta restaurant that I love called OK Café.

This is a happy little place off West Paces Ferry in Atlanta - they serve excellent food, and they take great care of their staff.  They have burgers and sandwiches, but also blue plate specials - fried chicken, grilled salmon, meatloaf, pot roast, and so on.  All kinds of vegetables, desserts galore... they also do breakfast, and it's great - but lunch and dinner are a real precious gift.  I had the pot roast, mac and cheese, brussels sprouts and pound cake.

I slept fitfully, as one does the night before a legal battle royale in an unfamiliar and slightly too warm hotel room.  I did sleep in enough to miss the hotel breakfast, which, given the amount eaten the night before was totally fine.  I got to the Fulton County Courthouse super early, but they were able to take me right away.  To my delight, I was probated and out the door by 10:30 (for an 11AM appointment) with signed papers and a sigh of relief.

So, I decided I needed to celebrate.  And that's what I did.  I got in my car, and drove the four miles to IKEA.

Here's what you should know about IKEA.  10:45 AM on Tuesday is the perfect time to go.  I bought some dishtowels, a dog toy, a new shower curtain, a set of tongs, and some candy for me, and the people near me.

Namely:

If this isn't amusing to you, I'm going to need you to check your pulse.  It's so dang on-brand, plus, their chocolate is pretty dang tasty.  For Matt, I got licorice - salted and sweet.  Not my thing, really, but he loves it, so who am I to stop him.

While shopping, I picked up, then dropped and broke a bowl.  I felt terrible.  I waited til the man with the broom came, offered to pay for it and apologized profusely.  He wouldn't let me pay for it.  He was very kind.  The other act of kindness is that when I was buying the sweets, the man at the counter gave me a free cookie, which was delightful.  Sugar cookie.  I love a good sugar cookie.  And it was fresh out of the oven.

With my retail itch scratched, I headed back to Nashville, and made great time.  I got here around 2:30, and since I had the day off, took my new paperwork to the bank to set up an account for the estate of which I am now executor.  That took until 4PM, at which point, I took my productive self home.

All that, AND I beat the snow.  It started around 9PM, we got probably 2-3", and it's pretty.  A lot of the city shut down, but I still managed to get out to pick up some lunch and mail a letter.  It's all good.  All of it.

The house goes on market this week.  They're having open houses this weekend, and I am sure I will hear from people about it.  Lookie-loos, that is.  I have been bombarded with people who want to help me with the property.  I managed to get onto a list somewhere, because the phone calls are incessant.

Anyway, after several months of slog, I think we're getting closer to the finish line.

Finish...by way of Sweden!

The chocolate bunny made me laugh, but this is where I show I've never been to an IKEA because I didn't know they sold food. Although you can get chocolates at the checkout pretty much anywhere. That line from the Reese's commercial, "I'm pretty sure you can get them at a bank" is not a joke. But I've heard so much about IKEA I'd love to visit one and probably get lost.
Anyway I'm glad the probate went easily and that you got here ahead of the snow which is already rapidly melting. And the next time I'm in Atlanta I'm making the OK Cafe one of my stops. I love the look of the place. If I'd just happened to see it while passing by I'd have to go in.
