Day One

So, this morning, I dove headfirst into the Keto diet.

This was not a decision made lightly.  I did some reading, I discussed with the NP at my doctor's office, I weighed the pros and cons. Bought a book.  And now, I have so much meat/egg/cheese in the fridge at home.  And at the office.

So far, so good.  Even when the guy who handles client development brought in apple fritters and cake doughnuts and whatnot from a good bakery.  I walked away from it.  I had some cheese, a little lunch meat, and coffee with cream and a half packet of stevia.  I have enjoyed some pork rinds.  I am going to make this work.

And if, after a month, I find that I am eight pounds heavier, bloated and gout ridden, well - then we pull up stakes and try again.  Something different.

But so far, so good.

This weekend, I went to the Art Crawl downtown, which I haven't done in ages.  It was good - one gallery was amazing.  There was another that was just plain strange.  An artist out of Alabama who made collages from doll parts and taxidermied animals and vintage photographs.  I mean, I like kooky, but even I have limits.

We had dinner afterward at a place I have been wanting to try... Woolworth's.  It's the location of  the original five and dime downtown - lunch counter, and all.  They have restored it, and the upstairs section features pictures from the sit-ins during desegregation.  The food is upscale southern, and we had a nice time sitting, eating and chatting.

I am lucky to have good friends.

Next weekend, I go to Atlanta for a wedding shower - a quick trip, but I am excited to get to see some family I don't see too often.  And some family I see more often.

I am feeling a little depleted, to be honest.  I am not sleeping well, I don't think - I am having some weird, exhausting, active dreams that require a lot of brain power.  I had a tough time getting up this morning.  I am really hoping that kicking sugar to the curb fixes some of the sluggishness.  But if not, I may check in with my PCP, because whatever this is, I need to find it and fix it.  It could be as simple as Vitamin D.

Anyway.

I'll keep you posted on the Keto thing.  If you don't hear from me, it's probably because I ate too many pork rinds and my laptop will no longer fit on my lap.

Just saying.

Now I feel guilty for missing the Art Crawl. That's on my things-to-do-one-of-these-years list and I can't explain why I keep missing it.
Also Woolworth's looks like a pretty good place to start the Keto diet. Or to say farewell to carbs before starting. Good luck with it!
